In my log file thismorning I found some entries dealing with ground ID's, can anyone shed some light on what these may be referring to?

This is  a reply that was interrogated by a ground station with ID 07 (a radar head). Because these data are ambigious they cannot be safely decoded without knowledge of the ground id.

I assume PP just counts how often it has seen a certain ground ID to be sure this exists. Probably used for Mlat purposes.

Not really, other than the fact that it's an ANZ Link Dash 8, based at Nelson - a bit far away from you to be genuinely picking it up on the ground.
Definitely and conclusively not associated in any way, shape or form with AirNav or Kinetic.

While the Dash 8 owners (Air Nelson) have their head office in Nelson the Dash 8's are up and down the country constantly so I'm erring toward junglejets explanation have there is the Ballance SSR station on the hill at the back of me here in Palmerston North and it has been upgraded to ModeS ops.  Thanks Dave.
